Room 3's visit to kindy!

I'm still not sure who was more excited today- the kindy kids getting to see 'big school kids' or the 'big school kids' getting to visit their favourite kindergartern, siblings and loved teachers!

We shared a play and all read a book to some of the kindy children. Very enjoyable, reading to our little brothers or sisters, neighbours and wee friends! We also enjoyed playing with them and found it hard to leave and go back to school. We look foward to visiting again or having kindy over to see us.

Maria Gill - Author

Today a New Zealand Author, Maria Gill, came to our school and talked to us about her beautiful non-fiction books and about being an author. She writes during the day when her kids are at school and writes about 'real' things. She starts from a big idea and does alot of researching, planning, writing and heaps of proof reading.

One of the main points we liked was to BELIEVE IN YOURSELF! set yourself goals and you can do whatever you want (within reason!)

Arrowtown

Denise showed us how to Gold pan. We learnt how to swirl the water around in the pan, but we didn't really enjoy the part of having to have patience... this is hard work!! Congrats to Indi for finding Gold in her pan!

Looking inside the huts the Chinese lived in while gold mining. We were interested in the materials they used, as they have lasted a long time, but this is in summer! What would winter have been like?! Room 3 aren't too sure about this...

Triathlon

On your marks.... get set....




GO!!
What a fantastic triathlon day we all took part in on Friday 2nd March. We ran, biked, and then ran again! Phew! We were all very excited/anxious, and were extremely proud afterwards! Well done everyone for taking part, and for the whole school as well. Big thanks to Jude and Mark Elliott for organising the event and all the helpers/marshalls/bbq workers and iceblock sellers that made the day so enjoyable.

Busy days!

This Friday 2nd March is the school triathlon, please ensure you have a bike, helmet and good running shoes for this. Also a sunhat, water bottle and a good lunch!

On Tuesday 6th March Room's 2,3, and 4 (all the NE, Y1 and Y2's) are travelling by bus to Arrowtown in search for Gold! This is part of the Celebrating 150years of gold in Central Otago.

Tennis!

Perry, our tennis coach, has taught us how to hit a forehand at tennis.

We make 3 positions;

1. Ready position.

2. Star position.

3. Big nose!

Ask us how to do this, we are awesome!

ART

We have used paper and other materials such as buttons, sequins, pasta and googly eyes to create a stunning art piece of ourselves! we are very proud of our work and may display it at the show.. come and have a look at all of our work in the classroom.

THE HUNGRY CATERPILLARS!!

We have caterpillars! They are so hungry!! One of them has already turned into a chrysallis and there are two more eating up all the leaves at the moment on the swan plant. Look at the photo how this caterpillar latched itself onto a leaf, they are so clever. Come and have a look at our caterpillars with our magnifying glasses and watch them turn into beautiful butterflies!

..... Wow!! We were in class and saw the butterfly hatch from its chrysallis, it was so exciting! We couldn't believe how big it was, as it just sat calmly on the leaf drying its wings.

The next morning it jumped off onto the floor and after pumping its wings it was helped by Emma's mum to be released out the door! Go free Monnie Butterfly!

2012 Term 1

Kiaora!! Welcome to the Room 3 Class Blog site for 2012.
You will see from the class photo that we are a bright, happy class of 18 Year 1 and 2 student's.
We look foward to publishing some of our work and photos on the Blog this year and will be keen to read your comments.

Book Character Day - 4th June

Harry Potter, Santa, StarWars, Strawberry Shortcake, Wheres Wally, Fairies, Sleeping Beauty, Witches, Wizards, Spiderman, Policeman, Butterflies and kittens to name a few took over from Room 3 on Friday. Wow were they impressive!! our best dressed award went to Summer for her stunning butterfly wings, hand painted at home. The most unrecognisable went to Carter, check out the mask!

The day was also celebrated with a show in the morning 'Old McDonald' performed by a Christchurch Music Theatre group. After morning tea we all took part in the jump rope for heart, working really hard at skipping with ropes in may different ways.
