Book Character Day - 4th June

Harry Potter, Santa, StarWars, Strawberry Shortcake, Wheres Wally, Fairies, Sleeping Beauty, Witches, Wizards, Spiderman, Policeman, Butterflies and kittens to name a few took over from Room 3 on Friday. Wow were they impressive!! our best dressed award went to Summer for her stunning butterfly wings, hand painted at home. The most unrecognisable went to Carter, check out the mask!

The day was also celebrated with a show in the morning 'Old McDonald' performed by a Christchurch Music Theatre group. After morning tea we all took part in the jump rope for heart, working really hard at skipping with ropes in may different ways.

We have written about what a leaf is like, painted pictures with leaf rubbings and also taken photos around the school to see what autumn is like.

Communication - Inquiry Term 2 2010

This term our Inquiry is about Communication.

The "Big Ideas" are:

• There are lots of ways to communicate
• We need to be able to communicate in different ways depending on the situation
• We can all communicate
• Technology has influenced how we communicate
• Communication evolves over time

What do we know about communicating?
What do we want to find out about?

ANZAC Biscuits

Before ANZAC weekend Room 3 made ANZAC biscuits. We discovered there is lots of measuring to be done and even more lots of eating to be done! Suprisingly there was not many biscuits left for the final photo but there was definitly evidence of chef's at work!
We wrote out the instructions for how to make them and also sent a recipe home for the Master Chef's.

Farewell Teal!

On Teal's last day of school at Hawea Flat we had a really cool party in the Grandview room.

We played pass the parcel and musical chairs. After dancing we ate the yummy morning tea our parents provided for us.

We will all miss Teal heaps and wish him and his awesome family all the best for Christchurch.

Lynley Dodd

Stories, face painting, fire engine rides, treasure hunts, lolly scrambles, books and food! What a busy morning on Saturday 20th March! Many of the junior school came along to meet Lynley Dodd and support the fundraising for Hawea Playground developments.

Room 3's Dog pictures were proudly displayed in the Community Room along with their fabulous writing about their own favourite dog.

It was lovely to meet the famous author, Lynley Dodd and it was good to hear that she gets her good ideas for writing just like we do, from our own personal experiences. She also mentioned its helpful to keep a scrapbook, notebook or box to record all the pictures and words that you like, to save up for a good story!

FIRE SAFETY

This week we have been finding out about what to do in fires. Doug came in and talked about safety with matches and lighters, we know its best to give them to an adult. He used a grey blanket as pretend smoke for us to practise 'GET DOWN, GET LOW and GET OUT!' we realise you do need to get really low to not breath in any smoke. He also told us how to STOP DROP and ROLL, it was fun smothering him with a blanket to put out the 'fire!'
Miss Moore looked really cool dressed up as a firewoman, she said the clothes were really heavy.
Thanks to Doug for sharing all his wise information with us. At home we need to talk about safe meeting places, and what to do if you need to call 111.

Swimming Show! March 19th.

"I mermaid dived across the pool."
" I kicked my legs really hard to keep warm."
"I monkey crawled around the side of the pool."

Rooms 2,3 and 4 dispalyed a range of talents in the pool on Friday 19th March.
We demonstrated safe water entry, running across the pool, ducking our heads under,
blowing bubbles, freestyle and other swimming styles! While the water was freezing we all got in and were very brave.

Go By Bike Day - 17th March

What a great day Bike Day was, on Wednesday 17th March.
Nearly all children biked, or brought their bike to school to take part in the schools and national 'Go by bike day'.
During the day we rode around obstacles and some of us at lunch time rode on the bike park too.
Checking helmets and bikes were important before riding, and is something to remember to do all the time.

After settling into busy school routines we have participated in
many school events, such as Bike Day and Swimming Show.
The Wanaka Show is on the 12th and 13th March, look out for our amazing Lake Hawea artwork in the pavilion!
