4R's

Hawea Flat School value's the 4 R's.

We are learning to be:

• Responsible for myself
• Responsible for my learning
• Respect Others
• Respect property

Room 3 unpacked these and had a look at what this means for them.

Here are some of our pictures to show how we use the 4 R's everyday.

 

 

We respect property by putting away gear when finished with it.

 

 

 We respect others by helping them when they are hurt and looking after them.

 

 

 We are responsible for ourselves by looking after our own

reading folders and belongings.

 

 

 

We are responsible for our learning by taking part

and challenging ourselves in daily learning.

Yoga with Nicola Nolet

Relax. Inhale. Hold. Exhale. Relax.

We could do this all day!

What fun it was to have Nicola Nolet come and teach all of the Year 1 and 2 children how to enjoy yoga through telling a story.

We 'talked on the phone, made porridge, rode our bikes, pretended to be caterpillars, dogs and even giants!'

After sharing this at assembly on Friday we now look foward to making up our own stories with yoga moves.  Thanks Nicola! We are inspired!

Animal group trip to Amanda's horses

Wanaka Vets

The Wanaka Vets kindly showed the 'Animal' Group what happens at their Clinic.

We found out alot about how to treat animals, especially pet dental care, wounds and treatment at the vets.  Kanuka's wee kid goat had a bad eye, so Melissa brought it in to be checked.

 

 

 Beth found its eyelashes had grown into the eyelid and created another eyelid in defence, which was growing an ulcer on it.  She gave it some injections and cream to make it better.

                                             We were kindly given some biscuits for our dogs or
cats that are special dental treatment biscuits, we are also going to try and brush our pets teeth.

                                  Dogs need to see the vet's dental nurse too! They often need a scale and polish.

Reading with our 'Gran's!'

We just love our weekly visit from the Grans.  Every Thursday about 5 or 6 Grans from the
community come into school to read with children.  This week we had such a lovely sunny day we all sat outside in the sun.  We read to them and they read to us.  Most of all, we really enjoy talking and having a 'Gran' friend.

Animal Farm Trip, 8th November

                  Lots of us had a turn and some of us tried the milk which we actually liked!

Area

During Maths time this week we have been learning about Area.

We are learning to -compare and order areas of shapes.

 

Which takes up the most area, hands or feet?

1.         Trace around your hand.

2.         Trace around your foot.

3.        Estimate the amount of cubes needed.

4.       Use cubes to cover the shapes.

    5.        Compare which uses the most cubes.

Estimate: We think that our feet are bigger than our hands.

Results: for some of us our feet and hands have similar area.

But for most of us we were right, the area of our feet is larger than our hands.

 

Mini Olympics

 

We planned and took part in the school Mini Olympics day at the end of term 3.  We designed and created flags and headbands.

One of the highlights was working with the other age groups and some teams were lucky enough to win a gold, silver or bronze medal.

Term 4

Wow! Term 4 is here already!
There are alot of things on this term including;
Thursday 18th October school photos 9am.
Tuesday 23rd October - change of bus route and times.
Thursday 25th October - Athletics, Wanaka Showgrounds 8:50am assemble.
