Room 3- term 3!

A special welcome to Jessica Penney from Christchurch to our class, Jessica is in year 1 and is soon to have her 6th birthday!

Welcome also to Jack, Holly and Arlo from Room 4, who are all settling in so well.

Friday- ski days!

The best thing about our winter in Hawea Flat would have to be Fridays- ski days!

This year we have 93 children participating in the Cardrona programme and around 40 at Treble Cone.

Teaching skipping skills to hawea kindy

As the kindergarten invited us over and their
children prepared for their jump rope for heart day, we brainstormed what skills they need in order to skip. We designed our own station based on hopping, jumping or basic movement activities.
With respect and encouragement in our pockets, we headed over the fence and put our teaching into practise.

Matariki

Matariki, or the Māori New Year is celebrated in mid to late June when the first new moon occurs along with the appearance of the star cluster Matariki (Pleiades, or Seven Sisters), in the pre-dawn eastern sky.
Matariki marks the end of the traditional harvest and the beginning of the 'new year' planting season. It is a time of feasting, fun, and festivity.

Snow fun

Some of us loved the opportunity to have snow fights this afternoon and all of us loved the chance to target Doug!

School closed!! How exciting! 

School Production- Sir Ed, You're a Legend!

As Tibetan dancers and musicians, we dressed up, danced and played our very best in the school's production of 'Sir Ed, you're a legend' last week.  We  loved performing on stage and enjoyed being part of the chorus- singing along with all the songs and joining in with chorus lines.  After a matinee and two evening performances we feel proud and thrilled to have been a part of this.

A special congratulations to Kate's brother Jono, who was Sir Ed in the show.  He did an outstanding job, well done!

The big sad wolf

We roared with laughter as the New Zealand Playhouse group treated us to a hilarious show this afternoon.  3 people acted out many different fairy tale characters to prove that the wolf is not bad, or sad, but glad! What a great way to end a busy week.

After two late nights showing the community how amazing we are at our school's production, today we lay low! We watched a DVD and designed a mural of Mount Everest.  In the afternoon we were treated to a live show at school... This time we are the audience....

Kate the climber!

Thanks to Tawa's mum, Kate, who came in last week to show us her climbing gear.  Kate explained all the different safety things you need and showed us how to wear a harness correctly for rock climbing.
