Aranui Theatre group

On Friday 29th May the 'Aranui Theatre' group came to our school to preform a play called 'Once Upon a Pie.' It was based around all the different fairytales so there were characters such as, Little Red Riding Hood, Big Bad Wolf, Jack and the Beanstalk, Cinderella and Rapunzell. The 4 year olds from Kindergarten came too and we all enjoyed the show.

Button Box - Dancing!

The Dance group have been practising a very lively dance to the 'Belly Button Boogie'! They have alot of enthusiasm and can't wait to perform on stage! The group is made up of mainly Year 1-2 children.

During our whanau group time- where the whole school have been working in either music, dance, drama or art groups, the 'Arts group' have been making alot of backdrops, props and designs for the production. Junior and Senior classes enjoy and work well together.

Autumn Leaves

As the autumn leaves fell from the trees we all had an awesome time at lunchtime playing in them! We made huge piles and had lots of leaf fights!

Term 2 Festival of Colour

On the first we back at school we were treated to two performances as part of the Festival of Colour week.
The first was Rangimoana Taylor, an engaging storyteller. He told us the importance of looking, listening and talking about stories that we read and hear. He also made the point that many people in New Zealand think stories are just for children, but as their is a big kid in all of us we know that everyone can enjoy stories.

Our other performance was in Wanaka, where we watched 'Tale of a Dog'. Everyone loved this and afterwards we talked about all the things you need in a performance, like costumes, lights, props and actors.

This was important because at the end of this term our whole school will be talking part in a production, so watch this space!!

Fire Station Fun!

On Wednesday 25th March, Rooms 4 and 4A went to the Lake Hawea Fire Station.
Doug, Brett and Churchy showed us around and taught us how everything works.
We learnt about fire safety in our houses, clothes and gear they have to wear, oxygen bottles, what is in the fire truck, and most exciting of all we all had a turn at squirting the fire hoses!
Thanks so much to all the parents who drove us there and back in their cars and looked after us there.

New Classrooms

The digger demolished the toilet block on Wednesday 25th March, it was so loud
that all the children came out to watch. We were amazed with its big claw.

The crane lifted the trusses onto the top of the frames. It reached up so high!

Mica the Clown

Mica the Clown came to school on Friday 13th. We especially loved watching his poodle perform tricks!

Concrete Mixer!

Today we watched the concrete being poured from the concrete mixer for the new classrooms.
The man showed us the remote control he uses to shift the pump. He held the pump while it squirted out. He also told us about the screed they used to level out the wet concrete. Most of all we loved watching the trucks!

ARE WE SAFE?

This term our Inquiry topic is 'Are We Safe?'
We enjoyed a School Trip into Wanaka on Tuesday 10th February.
We visited the Outlet Track to look at River and Bush Safety.
Road Safety was discussed at the lake front and Water safety too.
