Upper Clutha Athletics

Hurdles, long jump, beanbag throw, obstacle course, parachute, sack races, egg and spoon race - we were busy!! What a brilliant day the 5 and 6 year olds had on Thursday 22nd October at the Wanaka Showgrounds. Many of the Hawea Flat children received certificates for good sportmanship. Another highlight for our class was Teal Wilkie winning the 5 year old boys 60metre sprint race. How awesome out of all of those Wanaka children too, way to go Teal!

100 days of school

Over the year we have been counting up to 100 days of school, on the 31st August we finally reached this target. We celebrated this day by dressing up, bringing our teddy bears, dancing and playing games. What a cool day!!

Cross Country

GO HAWEA!!! This is the cheer you could hear around the field on Monday 17th August.

All the Year 1 and 2 children competed in their cross country races, competing with Tarras, Makaroara and Holy Family schools as well. After the races and lunch we mixed into sports groups for an afternoon tabloid session.

Toy and Transport Museum

Toys, Cars, Fire Engines, Planes, Trains, Wheels, Levers, you name it- it's there!!

On Monday 10th August Rooms 3 and 4 took the bus to the toy and transport museum and

had an awsome time looking at everything there. Our main question was "How does it move?" and we were able to see alot of wheels, axels, levers, steering wheels and eninges to answer our questions. What a great trip! Thanks to Dick for driving the bus and all the parents that looked after a group of children there.

BUTTON BOX PRODUCTION!

There was plenty of magic, laughter and sunshine in the Hawea Flat Hall on Wednesday 1st and Thursday 2nd July. All children from the school took part in the school production in many ways. Everyone performed on stage for at least 1 item, some children also sang in the choir, played in the band, acted on stage or danced the night away. Room 3 performed like professional irish stars as they danced confidently and proudly on stage. What a great show, thanks to all who helped out!

Aranui Theatre group

On Friday 29th May the 'Aranui Theatre' group came to our school to preform a play called 'Once Upon a Pie.' It was based around all the different fairytales so there were characters such as, Little Red Riding Hood, Big Bad Wolf, Jack and the Beanstalk, Cinderella and Rapunzell. The 4 year olds from Kindergarten came too and we all enjoyed the show.

Button Box - Dancing!

The Dance group have been practising a very lively dance to the 'Belly Button Boogie'! They have alot of enthusiasm and can't wait to perform on stage! The group is made up of mainly Year 1-2 children.

During our whanau group time- where the whole school have been working in either music, dance, drama or art groups, the 'Arts group' have been making alot of backdrops, props and designs for the production. Junior and Senior classes enjoy and work well together.

Autumn Leaves

As the autumn leaves fell from the trees we all had an awesome time at lunchtime playing in them! We made huge piles and had lots of leaf fights!

Term 2 Festival of Colour

On the first we back at school we were treated to two performances as part of the Festival of Colour week.
The first was Rangimoana Taylor, an engaging storyteller. He told us the importance of looking, listening and talking about stories that we read and hear. He also made the point that many people in New Zealand think stories are just for children, but as their is a big kid in all of us we know that everyone can enjoy stories.

Our other performance was in Wanaka, where we watched 'Tale of a Dog'. Everyone loved this and afterwards we talked about all the things you need in a performance, like costumes, lights, props and actors.

This was important because at the end of this term our whole school will be talking part in a production, so watch this space!!
