Area

During Maths time this week we have been learning about Area.
We are learning to -compare and order areas of shapes.

Which takes up the most area, hands or feet?

1.         Trace around your hand.
2.         Trace around your foot.
3.        Estimate the amount of cubes needed.
4.       Use cubes to cover the shapes.
    5.        Compare which uses the most cubes.

Estimate: We think that our feet are bigger than our hands.
Results: for some of us our feet and hands have similar area.
But for most of us we were right, the area of our feet is larger than our hands.

Mini Olympics

We planned and took part in the school Mini Olympics day at the end of term 3.  We designed and created flags and headbands.
One of the highlights was working with the other age groups and some teams were lucky enough to win a gold, silver or bronze medal.
Look at our wonderful team photos!

TIME

This week we have been practising how to tell the time with both digital and analogue clocks. It would be great to talk at home about what time we get up in the morning, have tea, go to bed etc.  We have learnt both half past and o'clock times.

Cross Country, 31st August

We loved our Cross Country day on Friday 31st August.
Well done George! 3rd place in Year 2 boys race.

Awesome Isabella! 2nd place in Year 1 girls race.

All of us are very proud of how we ran so hard.  We can also be very proud of those children who congratulated winners in their races.  It was great to have Holy Family and Tarras school's along. Thanks to the Year 6's for running with us and for the parent helpers. Especially Kobi's Dad on the starting blocks, Kanuka's parents for taking photos, Max's parents for the yummy sausages and Tia's Mum at the finishing line.

Here are some of our Year 1 cross-country memoir's:

“On your marks, get set, bang!” My Dad banged the blocks to start the race.
I pump my arms, I lift my legs.
My eyes were looking ahead, I saw a corner coming up.
I heard the children stamping their feet on the ground.
At the end my brother said “Good work.”
By Kobi
“Take your marks, set, bang!” Andy banged the blocks.
He started the Year 1 race, yay, the race had started!
I pump my arms, I lift my legs and run.  I fixed my eyes on the finish line.
“Run, run” I said quickly to myself, before the finish line.

SARAH WALKER!

WOW! Some of us were starstruck, most of us were inspired! Today we felt so lucky to be able to have Olympic Silver medal winner Sarah Walker visit our school.  She told us about her training, history and current life. We asked many questions and also got to hold her amazing silver medal - suprisingly heavy.  Isabella brought her bike helmet along to get signed and Grace was lucky enough to have a photo taken with her. WOW WOW!!

An interview with Nick Willis

We have watched Nick Willis' interview online.
The most inspiring thing we thought he said was about
" how important it is to congraulate the winner."
He values fair play.
This week at our sports day and cross country day our goals are to perform the best we can and also to congratulate others too.
