Gavin Bishop

During the Festival of Colour week we were treated to a range of New Zealand talent. One was a favourite author of ours, Gavin Bishop. He shared his stories, ideas, planning book and even his teddy bear he was given when we was 4!

Jacko!

Lincoln brought his news to school, well actually his Dad and Tim did as it weighs at least 20kg!

 

 Tim helped us by bringing in his power saw to cut the top off.

 

 

 We all dug into the pumpkin, for at least an hour or more to get it all out and then sorted out the seeds to keep and use again.

Happy Easter!!

To celebrate Easter this weekend room's 1 and 3 made chocolate nests and raced in egg and spoon races. Happy Easter to our awesome room 1 buddy class who are always helpful and caring. We wish everyone a safe and happy break.

Butterfly art

We drew and painted the outline of half a butterfly. Then we folded it in half to make it symmetrical- the same on both sides. We used pastel to colour it in.
We also used 'nature' to show the life cycle of a butterfly.

This week we have loved having Pip and Harold the Giraffe visit our school.
We have been learning about how we breathe in oxygen and make carbon dioxide.
We have also found out more about our digestive system.

Devon Dairy Farm

MOOOOve in, MOOOOOve around, MOOOOOve out!
Oh the joy's of being a cow!

On Thursday 21st March we visited the new Devon Dairy Farm.

Dave and Amy, (Cameron's parent's) showed us around and told us how their Rotary Milking Shed works.  We then had a turn at being a cow and standing on the rotary platform to experience MOOOving around the dairy shed, as they are twice a day to be milked.
What a great view from our walk up the hill to see how the farm is set out, with paddocks fenced in semicircles for the pivot irrigator.
We were impressed with how everything works and how clean and efficient their shed is run.  Thank you for the experience.

Show Art 2013

All children created their own poses by sketching over a photo of themselves.  Their work portrays energy through the use of coloured mosaic circles and shows their interests both in and out of the classroom.

Monarch Butterfly

Thank you to Lincoln's family for having our caterpillars stay and feed off your swan plant.
Today we released our first monarch butterfly.  It sat for quite awhile on Lincoln's hand, before pumping up it's wings, preparing to fly.  We let it off near Mrs Heath's garden as we know she has plenty of flowers it may like. It sat on a tree for awhile, within minutes it had gone, go free Monnie Butterfly!

TRIATHALON

RUN, BIKE, RUN!!!
On your marks, get set go!!
We ran around the field, biked down to kindergarten and back, into transition before running another lap of the field. PHEW!
A big thanks to the Year 1 buddy's who competed with us and helped us along the way.  Thanks also to many of our parents for being marshalls and helping out on the course.
Also many thanks to Jude and Mark Elliot for organising the whole event.

Congratulations to Isabella from our class who placed 3rd in the Year 2 girls race. Way to go!!

Vegetable Creatures

We have been making vegetable creatures.
We used marrows, tomatoes, carrots, potatoes and lettuce.
At the show there is a vegetable creature section.  Some children have shown an interest in entering, you may like to check out the show enteries on the internet.
