Athletics

Well done to all children for participating and challenging themselves at the athletics sports on Thursday 31st October. Many of our class made sprint finals, including Bella Urquhart who got 3rd in the 5yr girls race and Miki Bercelli who got 2nd in the 6yr girls race.

Land art

We  planned our land art  with room 7. We collected the materials and when we got back  we created them on the ground. Here are some photos to share with you.

Spring!

We have been noticing and talking about spring. How is it different from winter? What do you notice in the garden, at home, what are kids doing differently?!

We shared our ideas, drew pictures and wrote poems to share.

Included is a photo of Mrs Muir's lambs, there are 10 at home to just 4 mums! Well done 'ewe' girls!

Kids and kids!

Thanks to kanakas mum and sister for bringing in the kid goats on the last day of term 3. Kanuka is holding 'coffee' and Leilana is holding 'cream.' We couldn't believe the goats mother can produce up to 3 litres of milk a day as well as feeding her babies! Wow! 

What is a fair test?

A fair test is when you keep everything the same, except the thing you are testing. (The variable.)

We have been investigating the properties of wool and other materials. For example, their strength, absorption and flammability.

Which material burns the quickest?

We found out that flax doesn't burn, wool only singes if you keep the flame on it. Plastic melts- and quickly! Paper and cotton both burnt well.

This was a fair test because the material samples were the same size and we kept it lit for the same amount of time.

As scientists we have tested our theories and come up with new ones.

Boat racing

After making our boats we raced them and found out what materials and designs work best.

Now we would like to find out what team New Zealand's boat is made of and how it goes so fast!

Boat making

We made lego and boats made out of recycled materials. We raced the boats in the water and blew them to make them move.  We are watching the Americas cup- go team New Zealand!

Working together with room1

We are working together with room1 as buddies and here are some photos.

Lake Hawea Station - down on the farm!

Angus (Joe's Dad) told us about their farm, the 10,000 sheep and 250 cows live on their 6500 hectare farm

After the sheep have been shorn the wool is sorted into different grades, that is the best to worst fleeces.

                              Then the wool is put into the wool press and made into a bale.

The bales of wool are sent away.... to  China on a boat!!!

The sheep wait in the wool shed in pens for the shearer.

 

Paper weaving
