Harakeke- flax.

This Wednesday we buddied up with room 6 and we walked down the road to collect flax.

Miss Tamiti said a special karakia, prayer, to say thank you to Tane Mahuta the Maori god of the forest.

We returned to school and took off the edges using our nails.

We later scraped the flax until we could lift out the fibres,'fluffy bits' and then plaited our flax.

Now we are looking at doing some experiments to test the strength of the fibre.
